Pre-9/11 program
On NINE ELEVEN (September 11)1906 the most powerful form of nonviolence, namely Satyagraha, the strategic nonviolent action, was born under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi in Johannesburg of South Africa. Since that date till today people all over the world have found an absolute and ultimately powerful 'weapon' that has proved its efficacy in humbling and restraining the forces of violence, exploitation, domination and imperialism. Had the world taken to heart the lessons and message of 9/11 1906 the world would have found an answer to the both - oppressive imperial materialism and extremist violence. We commemorate 9/11 therefore as it has a high emotive value today by a campaign of education in culture of nonviolence.
It is a four-fold campaign:
-
Education: Educate people about the legacy of 9/11 1906 and its great relevance today, through public meetings, media support, literature, Hind Swaraj Study camps.
-
Organize: Organizing community based nonviolent peace force, Shanti Sena. Since past three years we have conducted Swaraj Samwad followed by 4-day Hind Swaraj Study camps.
-
Pledge: Those who are motivated enough through a sustain process of public dialogue, consultation and Hind Swaraj Study camps take pledge of nonviolence on the day of 9/11. On 9/11 2005 56 man and women including youth took pledge of nonviolence.
-
Donate: Donate in order to support, create awareness, organization and action around the legacy of 9/11 1906.
Those who take pledge undergo a series of Shanti Sena (Community based peace building peace-keeping force) training sessions.
